history

Department of Engineering Chemistry take responsibilities to contribute students in the knowledge of chemisty with the following aims:

  • To enable the engineers from TUs under the Ministry of Science and Technology to acquire Engineering Chemistry subject.
  • To enable the Engineering Chemists to participate in a certain way in developing the country with the knowledge of Engineering Chemistry.

The department responsibilities focus on writing the curriculum and prescribed books on Engineering Chemistry for all Technological University under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Conducting refresher courses on Engineering Chemistry, giving lecture for PhD programme ( Engineering Chemistry ) ( Plan A & Plan B ) courses and supervising the theses students.

The department is composed with following members of staffs :

  - Associate Professor & Head  1
  - Lecturer  1
  - Assistant Lecturer  4
  - Laboratory Staff (Lab in-charge,Computer operator)   3

The department at Yangon Technological University offers for only POST GRADUATE DEGREE proramme. The following are number of students who has graduated with MASTER OF SCIENCE (Engineering Chemistry) and Ph.D (Engineering Chemistry) field from 1998 to 2004.

research

The department is doing research on medicinal herbs growing in Myanmar which can be used in curing malaria, diabetes, bacteria and HIV disease, cholera and  dysentery. Concerning research on purifying water, the department performs the tasks: trying to get – potable water; and to dispose waste water only after being treated.   Moreover, researches on food and enzymes, bio-fertilizer production, polymer, Ceramic- and earthen- ware and organic synthesis are done.
