The precursor of the Electronic Engineering and Information Technology Department was the Electrical Engineering Department, which was established in 1958. The Electronic Engineering and Information Technology Department branched off from it in 1997. Under this department, there are three major branches: (1) Electronic Engineering, (2) Information Technology and (3) Mechatronic Engineering. The most important aim and objective of the department is to train and produce electronic engineers and information technology specialists in addition to mechatronic engineers.
THE COURSES OF STUDY UNDERGRADUATE COURSES This department still turned out electronic engineers holding bachelor degree before 2004. The course for the bachelor degree lasted for six years. The students were taught basic science subjects such as English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, etc. in the first and second years. In the third year to final year, they were taught the respective engineering subjects. POST GRADUATE COURSES Master of Electronics – M.E (EC), (YTU) Master of Information Technology – M.E (IT), (YTU) Master of Mechatronics – M.E (MC), (YTU) Doctorate- Ph.D (Electronic), (YTU) Doctorate- Ph.D (Information Technology), (YTU) Doctorate- Ph.D (Mechatronic), (YTU) The course for the master degree lasts for two years including the thesis. This department produces three kinds of the mastery degree in electronic engineering, information technological engineering and mechatronic engineering. The course for the doctorate degree lasts for three years including the thesis. There are two kinds of the doctorate programs. One is the plan A program while the other is the plan B program. The plan A program takes one year for the course work and two years for the thesis. Under the plan B program, it is required to do a preliminary research within a year. Only after the preliminary research, the students are regarded as Ph.D candidates. After that, they are offered the opportunity to continue with their two-year doctorate thesis. The doctorate degrees are of three kinds: Electronic Engineering, Information Technological Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering up to 2006. Up to now, it produced about 700 M.E students and 45 Ph.D students. Now, it is offering only doctorate degrees for Ph.D ( Electronic). On the other hand, research and development are being made in various kinds of research areas for national development. There are maximum allowance 35 master students and 10 Ph.D students in every year.
