 ME 01011 Mechanical Engineering Drawing
 

 Engineering geometry and geometrical constructions. Theory of projection and fundamental rules of projection. The principles of orthographic projection: technique and application. Multi-view representation and conventional practices. Shop process and shop terms. Dimensions and specifications. Sectional views and sectioning conventions. Pictorial drawing.
 Development and intersection of lateral surfaces of geometrical and transition objects. Screw threads and fasteners.

 ME 01012 Workshop Technology
 

 Safety Measures:  General Safety  precautions. Safe clothing and Safety equipment. House keeping Rules for avoiding electric shock
Laying Out : Layout cools and applications.
Measuring Tools: Various types of micrometers and application.
Bench Work: Hand hack saws and sawing, power sawing, chisels and chipping, files and filing. Making of screw threads by use of tapes and dies.
Introduction to Metals: What is Metallurgy. Iron ore and iron. Engineering uses of the more common steels, alloy steels and nonferrous metals .Spark test of iron steel.
Care of Equipment: Friction.  Lubricants and kinds of oils Lubricants for cutting different metals. Belts.
Metal working machines: Drilling machines and drill press work. Lathe, Lathe tools and the lathe works. Introduction to shaper and milling machine. Tool grinders and tool sharpening. Calculation of machining time.
Fitting: Fits. Assembly tools and fasteners. Pipe fitting tools.
Permanent Joining of metals: Soldering, Brazing and welding.
Hand forging: Forging tools and forging work.
Heat treatment of steel:  Hardening, tempering, annealing. Case-hardening. Critical temperature.

 WORKSHOP PRACTICAL
 

 Bench Works
   The student will be able to perform the following tasks.

Working on Drill press
  The student will be able to perform the following tasks
      (a) Manipulating a Drill press.
      (b) Drilling and Reaming operations
      (c) Grinding twist drill tip in correct angle.
Grinding Cutting tools
  The student will be able to perform the following tasks.
      (a) Grinding turning tools in correct angles.
      (b) Grinding threading tools in correct angles.
      (c) Grinding parting tools in correct angle.
Lathe Works
   The student will be able to manipulate the following tasks
      (a) Straight turning
      (b) Step turning
      (c) Taper turning
      (d) Thread cutting
      (e) Using precision equipment.
Forging Works
  The student will be able to perform the following tests.
     (a) Upsetting  (b) Drawing down (c) Punching
     (d) Bending  (e) cutting   (f) fullering
Welding Works
  The student will be able to perform the following tasks.
     (a)Ampere setting
     (b) Arc sticking
     (c) Disposition in Flat / Horizontal /Vertical
     (d) Reinforcement 
Engineering Materials: Commercial testing of materials. Elementary Properties of ferrous and non- ferrous metals and alloys. Heat treatment of steel. Heat treatment furnaces. Pyrometry.
Foundry: Tools and equipment. Molding and Core making.
Introduction to Pattern making. Manufacture of cast iron (Cupola).
Welding: Types of welding, Type of welded joints. Welding positions. Arc welding; type of welding, electrode coating. Arc welding processes; carbon arc welding, metal arc welding. M.I.G, welding, T.I.G, welding Basic weld symbols. Supplementary weld symbols. Gas welding; equipment for oxy-acetylene welding, gas flame, welding technique, oxygen cutting, braze welding, Testing of welding joints.  
Forging Works
  The student will be able to perform the following tasks.
     (a) Upsetting (b) Drawing down (c) Punching
     (d) Bending (e) Cutting  (f) Fullering
Welding Works
  The student will be able to perform the following tasks.
     (a)  Ampere setting
     (b)  Arc striking

Measuring Instruments and Gauges: Standards of length. Classification of measuring instruments, types of measuring instruments. Vernier height gauge, Vernier gear- tooth calliper, adjustable bevel, Universal bevel protractor, sine bar, slip gauges, radius gauge, dial gauge.
Machine Tools: Classification of Machine tools, types of machine tools. Chief elements in metal cutting. Introduction to mechanics of cutting, chip formation forces shaper and shaping processes, milling processes, slotter and slotting processes. Surfaces grinder. Calculations of machining time.
Bench Work: Scraper and scraping processes.
                   Buffing and Metal finishing.
Sheet metal work: Hand tools, cutting tools and machines.

  WORKSHOP PRACTICAL
 

Forging Works
  Manufacturing of simple hand tools and simple engineering components. Heat treatment of tools and engineering components.
Bench Works
   Manufacturing of simple hand tools and simple engineering components.
Machine Works
  Manufacturing of hand to Manuals and simple engineering components.
Welding Works
  Care and use of oxy-acetylene welding equipment. Welding of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Depositing heads, butt welds, lap and fillet welds. Care and use of spot welding butt welding and seam welding equipments. Weld test and inspection. Use of MIG welding equipments.
Foundry Works
   Casting of simple engineering components. Study of casting defects.
Carpentry Works
Manufacturing of common joints and simple items. Maintenance and handling of woodworking machines.

 ME 01013 Basic Engineering Thermodynamics
 

 Thermodynamic properties. First law of thermodynamics and concept of energy. Energy equation for non-flow, single and multi-streams steady flow processes. The perfect gas laws and the equation of state. Specific heats of gases. Analysis of ideal gas cycle for the conversion of heat into work. Introduction to I.C. engines.
Properties of steam. Phase diagrams and use of steam tables. Determination of dryness friction of steam. Various processes with steam. Air steam mixture. Simple steam power plant. The steam engine. Ideal steam plant cycle and efficiencies. Engine trials. Indicated and brake power. Energy balance.

 ME 01015 Engineering Mechanics
 

 Static: Forced systems (Force, moment, couple, result of forces systems)Equilibrium (Free body diagrams). Structures (Method of joints, method of sections, Frames and machines) Distributed forces (Center of gravity, centroids).
Dynamics: Kinematics (Absolute motion, relative motion). Kinetics (Force , mass and  acceleration, particle motion, work and energy).

 ME 02018 Estimating and Shop Management

 ME 02021 Eingineering Drawing and Design
