    Magway Division is an administrative division located in central Myanmar between north latitude 18° 50' and 22° 47' and east longitude between 93° 47' and 95° 55'. It is bordered by Sagaing Division to the north, Mandalay Division to the east, Bago Division to the south, and Rakhine State and Chin State to the west. Magway Division is the largest of Myanmar's seven divisions, with an area of 17,306 sq miles.

   Magway Division is made up of the districts of Magwe, Minbu, Thayetmyo, Pakokku and Gangaw comprising 25 townships and 1,696 ward village-tracts. The capital is the city of Magwe . In 1994, the population is estimated at 300,000. Other major towns are Pakokku and Minbu. Four Districts of Magway Division are Magway District, Minbu District, Pakokku District and Thayet District. 

   The population of Magway Division is 4,200,000. Over 95% the people are Bamar, with very small numbers of minorities such as Chin, Rakhine, Kayin, Shan and others, including a tiny Anglo-Burmese population. Approximately 98% of the population is Buddhist.

    The artery of Magwe Division is the Ayeyarwaddy River. Railways and motor roads also traverse the region in addition to airfields. Magwe Mya Thalun Pagoda and Minbu Shwesettaw are famous destinations of Magwe Division. 

Magway Myathalun Pagoda 

       Steaming into Magwe, the riverine traveller is greeted by the sight of the Myathalun Pagoda glinting serenely from the summit of the Naguttama hillock hard by the bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. Being one of the greatly venerated shrines, and also because Magwe lies midway between the upcountry and the lower parts, its annual festival has served as a great fair for the exchange of local goods. 

Minbu Shwe Settaw
       A pair of Buddha's footprints are located in Settawya, a forest retreat at 34 mile distant west of Minbu on the apposite bank of Magwe which is 331 miles from Yangon by road. The Footprints are well preserved and shrines were constructed nearly. The place is known as the Pagoda site of the forest. The festival is held in February and March annually. Many people from different parts of the country gather their and make meritorious deeps singly or collectively.
